The Toronto Argonauts have become the first team to secure a playoff berth in 2023, punching their ticket with a 39-10 win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Toronto currently sits atop the East Division standings with a 10-1 record. The team is a perfect 10-0 when franchise quarterback Chad Kelly has started and finished games this season and remain undefeated at home with a 6-0 record.

Kelly was 21-of-28 passing on Saturday afternoon for 278 yards and added a rushing score. The team was powered to victory by an outstanding performance from running back A.J. Ouellette, who amassed 105 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Cornerback Jamal Peters forced a fumble and added the clinching interception.

The Argos have finished first in the East Division for the past two seasons, winning last year’s Grey Cup with a 24-23 upset over Winnipeg. Toronto hasn’t made the playoffs for more than two consecutive years since a six-season run from 2002 to 2007, during which the team won one CFL championship in 2004. The team hasn’t finished first in the East Division for three straight years since 1984.

The Argos (10-1) return to action on Friday, September 15 in a rematch against the Alouettes (6-6).
