Toronto and East York Community Council OK's bike lane changes to Woodbine Avenue

Toronto and East York Community Council has voted to cut the speed limit on Woodbine Avenue, but add a lane of rush-hour traffic, in a move led by local councillor Brad Bradford to mitigate traffic worries around the controversial bike lanes installed in 2017.

The community council supported Bradford’s plan despite the fact that a staff report recommended against the plan that would see the third northbound lane added on Woodbine Avenue between Gerrard Street East and Kingston Road.

Bradford told the community council he’d been working on the plan since he was elected to represent Beaches-East York in 2018. During that election, the bike lanes on Woodbine Avenue had become a polarizing issue, with some candidates advocating the removal of the lanes that had been installed just a year earlier.
